Longevity Is at the Heart of It All

Longevity Is at the Heart of It All

Dings are inevitable. If you surf your board, it’s going to happen.

What matters is how you deal with them.

Handled properly, a repair doesn’t shorten the life of a board. In many cases, it extends it.

Built to Last. Designed to Be Used. And Fixed...

Surfboard Care

Make these things last.

We’re firm believers in buying high-quality products that can be repaired again and again.

Like a well-built car or a proper raincoat, the initial purchase can sting.

“Wait, how much?”

But over time, you start to understand it. Every time something needs fixing and you can repair it properly instead of replacing it, it pays you back.

That’s the same ethos we carry in our brand. Build it well once, and reap the benefits for years to come.

Built to Last. Designed to Be Used.

Surfboards are tricky things to make.

They sit in a constant balance. They can’t be too heavy, but they need to be strong. Strong enough to handle millions of different torsions, twists, and impacts over their lifetime. Water can be very very unforgiving.

So the question we ask ourselves almost every day is this:

How do we make something strong, long-lasting, and still refined enough to surf the way it should?

That’s our job.

Yours is to ride it and look after it.

Below are a few simple ways to keep your board in the water for as long as possible. These come from years of building, breaking, fixing, and learning.

1. Keep It Out of the Sun

It sounds obvious, but it’s one of the biggest factors.

Direct sunlight will age a board faster than almost anything else.

UV light yellows boards quickly. Even though we use materials with UV inhibitors in both the blanks and resin, the sun still wins over time.

Heat also softens and weakens materials. It can make the board more brittle, increase the chance of delamination, and in extreme cases, even affect the shape. Darker boards are especially vulnerable. Leave one in a hot car long enough and you can end up with softened resin or even fins folding out of the bottom (yes, we have seen this).

Simple rule:

Keep your board in the shade whenever you can. Don’t leave it baking in the car or on the beach.

Our board socks are designed exactly for this!

2. Fix Cracks Early

If your board gets a crack, deal with it straight away.

If you’re mid-surf, push some wax into it and keep going. But once you’re out of the water, take a few minutes to seal it properly.

Even a small crack can let water in, and once water gets into the foam, the problem only gets bigger.

A quick fix with solar resin can go a long way in preventing a much larger repair later.

As a general rule:

If the damage is bigger than a bottle cap, it’s worth taking it to a proper repairer or setting aside the time to fix it properly yourself.

P.S - If you have jammed a bunch of wax in the ding, make sure you get it all out properly.

3. Use Solar Resin Properly

Solar resin is a great tool, but it has its limits.

It’s perfect for small, quick fixes. But it’s not designed for large repairs.

If you use too much, it may not cure properly, or it can set too hard and create a brittle section in the board. That often leads to a bigger issue down the track.

Use it sparingly, and if you’ve done a larger temporary fix, come back to it later with proper cloth and resin to finish the job properly.

Repairs Are Part of the Process

Dings are inevitable. If you surf your board, it’s going to happen.

What matters is how you deal with them.

Handled properly, a repair doesn’t shorten the life of a board. In many cases, it extends it.

If you’re ever unsure, send us a photo. No matter the age or condition of your board, we’re always happy to point you in the right direction and help you get it back in the water.
