The Shared Board Project
Shared Board Project — Terms & Conditions
Ownership
This surfboard remains the sole property of Simon Jones Designs at all times. Possession of the board does not constitute ownership under any circumstance.
Ride At Your Own Risk
Surfing is inherently dangerous. By riding, transporting, storing, or handling this surfboard, you accept all risks involved. Simon Jones Designs accepts no responsibility or liability for injury, death, loss, or damage caused directly or indirectly through use of the board.
This surfboard contains embedded electronic components including NFC and GPS/cellular tracking technology. Individuals with pacemakers, ICDs, implanted medical devices, or other sensitive medical equipment should exercise appropriate caution and consult their medical professional if concerned about potential electromagnetic interference.
No Selling Or Commercial Use
The board cannot be sold, auctioned, rented, traded for value, withheld for profit, or otherwise used commercially. It is a shared object intended purely for participation in The Shared Board Project.
Pass It On
The purpose of the project is movement. Riders are encouraged to pass the board forward within a reasonable timeframe so others may experience it too.
Respect The Craft
Please treat the board with care and respect. General wear, pressure dents, repairs, wax build-up and cosmetic damage are expected as part of the journey. Deliberate destruction, neglect, or misuse goes against the spirit of the project.
Repairs
If the board is damaged while in your possession, you are encouraged to repair it properly before passing it on. Surfboards are made to be ridden, and repairs become part of the board’s story.
Rider Discretion
Simon Jones Designs does not control who rides the board, where it travels, or how possession changes hands. Riders accept responsibility for their own decisions regarding the care, transport, and passing on of the board.
GPS Tracking
The board is equipped with a live 4G GPS tracking device by AnyTrack. By possessing the board, you acknowledge and consent to location tracking while the board is in your possession.
The tracker is self-powered, flight safe, and does not require charging or maintenance from riders. Just enjoy the board and pass it on.
The tracker uses both cellular and satellite connectivity and contains lithium iron batteries. By transporting, travelling with, or possessing the board, you acknowledge and assume any risks associated with these components.
Privacy
The live location of the board will never be publicly shared by Simon Jones Designs. Tracking information is used solely to privately monitor the board’s movement and verify its journey.
Logbook & Journal Entries
Riders may voluntarily submit photos, stories, locations, and journal entries from their time with the board. By submitting content, you grant Simon Jones Designs permission to publish, edit, archive, and share this material in connection with The Shared Board Project.
For privacy and safety reasons, journal entries and location details will generally only be published after the board has moved on from your possession.
We also encourage surfers to tag Simon Jones Designs in posts and share their journey using #TheSharedBoardProject so the wider community can follow along as the board travels the world.
Loss Or Theft
If the board is lost, stolen, heavily damaged, confiscated, or otherwise unable to continue its journey, riders are encouraged to contact Simon Jones Designs as soon as possible.
Project Changes
Simon Jones Designs reserves the right to pause, end, modify, retrieve, or redirect The Shared Board Project at any time without notice.
The Spirit Of The Project
This project exists to connect surfers through shared experiences, travel, craftsmanship, and ocean time. The board is not meant to sit on a wall, disappear into storage, or become a collectible object. Ride it. Respect it. Add to its story. Then pass it on.
